Short CV
Fares Kayali is a game designer and researcher living and working in Vienna, Austria. He holds a PhD in computer science and has led the design of several computer and video games. At the moment he is responsible for the design of the social impact game "YourTurn!", which aims at acculturating Viennese youth with different ethnic roots through playing music together in a social game. For this project Fares Kayali is employed as a postdoctoral researcher at the Vienna University of Technology's Institute of Design and Assessment of Technology. In a research project at the University of Applied Arts Vienna he investigates the use of persuasive game mechanics and develops the design of a hybrid alternate reality game and exhibition. Fares Kayali also works as lecturer in game design and research methods at the University of Applied Science Vienna, Danube University Krems and SAE Institute Vienna. His research interests include game design, music and interactivity, serious and positive impact games, media and game art as well as research on the social impact of digital games.

Lebensnetz, a gesture-controlled video game to prevent dementia based on cognitive, physical and social tasks.
Serious Beats, Internet Use and Friendship Structures of young migrants in Vienna: the Question for Diversity within Social Networks and Online Social Games.
